The Greens’ Next Chapter – Reflections from Conference
Returning last week from our biggest-ever Green Party Conference felt like a turning point. With Zack Polanski now elected as our new Leader and membership surging past 90,000, the Greens are entering a new era. There’s a growing sense that we could be the party of the next fifty years, leading with truth, courage and care as Britain faces the intertwined challenges of climate collapse, disruptive technology and social division.
At Conference, I met the new Friends of the Earth CEO, Asad Rehman, and chaired a packed session on climate adaptation – how we can prepare for what’s already here. We argued that the Greens must lead a national mission to build resilience: from insulation and local food production to water security and psychological readiness for the upheavals ahead. These are not abstract policies – they’re seeds of survival and solidarity, linking climate truth with the cost of living, food and jobs.
If we’re honest about the world we face, we can help Britain pull together – not by fuelling polarisation, but by uniting communities in shared purpose. That’s the spirit that gives me hope, and it’s what the Green Party now stands for.
