Last week, I had the opportunity to speak at three People, Planet, Pint events — one in Norwich, a large one in Aldgate, and another in Richmond. I was struck not only by the warmth of the welcome but by the diversity of people in the room — people from a range of backgrounds, all engaged in meaningful conversations about what comes next for the climate and nature movement.

The questions were really thoughtful and grounded:
🔹 Why are we not talking more about the weather and what it’s already telling us?
🔹 How do we bring climate action down to the local level — where people actually live?
🔹 What happens to jobs during a green transition?
🔹 And how does the CMP’s focus on adaptation fit into all this?

These are exactly the kinds of conversations we need to be having.

With the departure of Just Stop Oil, we finally have a chance to move beyond the debate about tactics, and focus instead on root causes, how we adapt, and how we respond — together — to what is ultimately a common threat.

I believe this is the moment to reboot and redefine the climate and nature movement — to create something that’s welcoming, truthful, and capable of enrolling the majority.

At the Climate Majority Project, we’re building a new approach. One that’s:
* Designed to appeal to the many, not the few

* Starting with adaptation, not only decarbonisation

* Geared toward depolarisation, not division

* Giving ecosystems their rightful place, not just focusing on emissions

It’s also about helping people recognise that this isn’t just about policy or carbon — it’s about futures. Real ones. Ones we can still shape.

I explored that idea further in a recent podcast with MarketingKind, diving into my own journey, the Climate Majority Project, and how the concept of Thrutopia — the space between dystopia and utopia — can help us imagine the futures we want to create, together.

And if you’re curious, Prospect also published a conversation I had with Caroline Lucas that goes deeper into this shift:

Here’s the truth: the conditions around us are changing fast. Climate impacts are here — now — and they’re only going to intensify. The good news is that we already have most of the tools to respond. What’s missing is speed, scale, and belief — belief that this movement can belong to everyone.

That’s what we’re trying to build. Something clear and simple, so that the climate majority can recognise itself and act:

🟢 You’re not alone
🟢 There’s more of us than we think
🟢 And something big is coming

More soon,
Rupert
